Every nightmare I have that doesn't revolve around academic failure or public nudity is about that thing. In fact, once I dreamt that it attacked me while I was late for a test and naked.

Laura Ling and Eun Lee have been released! Thank you, Bill Clinton (and everyone else who worked to get these two out of North Korea)!

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Of course his therapist can't be reached becuase, you know, it's August in NY, therefore she is required by law with all other therapist to be out of town.

I found it surprisingly sympathetic of Al Quaida to wait until our shrinks came back.

Our wings are not tired.

A drink sounds like a good plan. Peaceful thoughts headed your way.

Go Big Dog! I'm sure there were many others to thank as well, but good news that these women are free.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Whoo-whoo! Go team spleen!

Major New Function Discovered For the Spleen

"The spleen doesn't get much respect — as one researcher put it, 'the spleen lacks the gravitas of neighboring organs.' Those undergoing a splenectomy seem to be able to carry on without any consequences. However, some studies have suggested an enhanced risk of early death for those who have undergone splenectomies. Now researchers have discovered why: the spleen apparently serves as a vast reservoir for monocytes, the largest of the white blood cells, the wrecking crew of the immune system. After major trauma, such as a heart attack, the monocytes are disgorged into the blood stream and immediately get to work repairing the damage. '"The parallel in military terms is a standing army," said Matthias Nahrendorf, an author of the report. "You don't want to have to recruit an entire fighting force from the ground up every time you need it."'"

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Yeah, I read that article with dismay, TR, since I have no spleen (sledding accident when I was 12) and it says I could have adverse health effects like, oh, a SHORTER LIFE. Notice the other example it gives is removal of ovaries, and I don't have them either.

I have been entirely too careless with my internal organs, it appears.

Do you still have your appendix? Tonsils?

On the plus side, you're not splenetic.

Please live long and prosper, Scrappy. (aka, don't fall off the motorcycle)

Emmett's camp is done and we're down to our last baseball tournament this weekend. Since I'm not dayjobbing it at the moment, we've been spending our days eating peaches and watching cheapass movies we get from the discount bin at Amoeba. Today we scored: Undercover Brother, Bourne Supremacy, The Matrix and Blade.

As Emmett is a fan of both Pushing Daisies and HIMYM, we opted for Undercover Brother.

I may just have a deck by sunset.

Yay for decks to watch the sunset!!!

Amazon is sending my order out to me. I might have it by this weekend--the final set of BSG dvds, the Torchwood miniseries, and a cooking thermometer (the probe kind they use on Good Eats and America's Test Kitchen--I can start cooking some turkey instead of always buying it from the deli!).
