Well, this changes things. NYS STD payments:
The benefit rate is 50 percent of the employee’s last eight weeks average gross wages with a maximum benefit of $170 per week.
So it's basically unpaid leave. Fuckeroo.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

I never saw Half Dome, but occasionally could make out the Sierras. I always like being able to see SF landmarks because they are so recognizable and seem so far away from the base of the mountain.
We could definitely see the Sierras, just not clear enough to distinguish Yosemite's peaks.
The short trail around the summit is quite flat, takes you through at least four different ecosystems and gives you great views for little effort, if you find yourself not wanting so much of a challenge.
Yeah, we already decided that next time we would drive to the top (if it was clear), and then maybe check out Rock City.
BTW, you can see my house from up there. At least, you can see vaguely where my house is if you know what you're looking for. Just about straight north, there's a white dome next to the water, that's our City Hall.
Cool. (Is this in the direction of the windmills?)
Hah! I sent those three "intellegence questions" to my dad, a PhD in Water Reclaimation.
He got all three wrong, mainly because he didn't answer the question given.
I have also sent them to my kids - will see what they come up with.
God, I want to smite Boss #2. I just got cc'd on an email about a possible scheduling conflict in which he noted parenthetically that he's away next Friday. When he's on call for one of our clinical testing services, which is already going to be shut down for six days this month due to a combination of federal holidays and nobody being available to cover for someone else who's on call for most of the month.
Aaaaand... I just talked to him. He's going to be in Denver for two days next week, and forgot to tell me. He said, "I tell so many people about my schedule, I forget who I'm telling." I told him that he's no longer allowed to tell anyone about his schedule but me. I will tell other people. If other people ask him, he directs them to me. I'll keep a list of people who need to know his schedule and send them regular updates, but he is not to schedule anything directly with anyone else, ever. It goes through me or it doesn't happen.
He looked very meek and abashed and promised to do things my way, but I don't expect it to last past mid-December.
Not enough head, not enough desk.
If I sent those questions to my PhD mother or sister they would just WTF me back. They are so not about brain teasers, especially ones with numbers in them. They'd rather splice DNA or solve the problems of the world respectively.

That's pretty good! The haze in the valley in the summertime almost always obscures them.
Is this in the direction of the windmills?
Maybe? I'll have to get up there and check. There are definitely wind farms a little east of me, but I'm not sure what they look like from that direction, the Potrero Hills might get in the way of seeing them.
Not far from the mothball fleet, that's probably a good landmark.
I got all of them right, which surprised me.
I'm blanking, what do you call it when you have satellite TV, a subscription?
Ooh, underground tunnels to other buildings, that sounds exciting!
Here's a map of downtown. The tunnels are the solid red lines [link]
This guy apparently blogs about them [link]
There's a series of tunnels in Houston too. Which was kind of a problem when the city flooded in 2001.
