I caught her on a park bench, making out with a *chaos* demon! Have you ever seen a chaos demon? They're all slime and antlers.

Ah yes, the craptacity of parental leave policies. The small companies I have worked for were willing to adhere to FMLA, but I put off the adoption work 2 times because of changing jobs and needing to get in a year with each to even qualify for it.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

The NY office has less than 50 employees, and I'll have been there less than a year so FMLA doesn't apply.

Well, in a word, fuck.

I think, IIRC, that your tenure with Old Company should apply in this instance since New Company bought it. Let me do some more digging.

Also, you might want to check into purchasing an AFLAC individual claim. A friend used it and they pay you pretty quickly. I just sent away for info on it, just in case.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I would wear pastels more if I could find 50s sundresses that would fit me

I tore up eBay a couple years ago. The jewel of my collection is a pink one with a white--dammit, what's it called with the little cutout patterns and the embroidery? I'm blanking on the term--panel down the front. And then I have other pastel shirt dresses. I don't know what came over me.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Technically, they didn't. It's a strategic business partnership. New Company is offering some of Old Company's employees positions there out of the goodness of their hearts.

That sounds very much like the word I was brainfarting on, yes. Thank you.

Because books.

Jesus, Jess. I don't even know what to say. It's amazing how much people and businesses can suck.

I may have to seize the cat.

I contribute my own shock at that absurd maternity leave policy.

I just don't think there's any way I can take this job. And I don't have anything else on the horizon.

Oh, Jessica, I am so sorry. That's two days more than my employer offers, but I had PTO accumulated, and DC actually has it's own FMLA-type law that's even more generous (if I'd needed it). A quick check shows me that New York has no FMLA type law.

Is short term disability part of your benefits package? (It wasn't for me.)
