An odd case where reading the comments is worth it - this article about Andre Agassi wearing a wig in the 90's only took 25 comments to devolve into a raging flame war about Obama's place of birth (with a healthy side helping of racism and anti-semitism). Record derail!
So I think no chocolate, no wine or booze, no candy, no flowers nothing that could feel too personal. Something that shows appreciation for a good client but with no vibe. Given the circumstances I need to choose something that is really unambigous about being a gift for a good customer, and not overly personal.
I've sent cookie assortments to nice clients I am grateful for. Still yummy, but without any of the dating connotations of candy since it's more the sort of gift that grandmas send.
Gift certificates/gift cards were invented for a reason. However, Harry & David would also be practical and yummy.
