Stephanie, it's a misconception. Hot food won't heat up the fridge. Leaving hot food out to cool will only encourage the growth of bacteria and cause illness. Put it in the fridge right away.

Hivemind question: Joe is convinced that tonight's dinner (really yummy chicken posole) must cool before it goes in the fridge. I think I've heard this before, but it makes no sense to me. Either way it cools; why would the rate of cooling matter?
My mother and I argue about this, so I googled it and everything I found supported MY theory, which is that to control bacterial growth, it needs to be cooled as quickly as possible. My mom remains unconvinced and insists I will destroy everything in the fridge if I put hot food in there.

Huh. My guess would have been not to put it in the fridge while it's hot because it will cause condensation in the container.
to melt Sara's heart - mac and I singing If I had a Hammer full volume over dinner. He learned it in music last week. His teacher is a bit of a old folk music fan, bless him.
Oh, that's awesome. They really should always expose kids to all varieties of folk music. By its very nature, easily singable and catchy.
Jilli! Yay job!
Excellent news, Jilli!
Gratz Jilli!
Yay, Jilli!
I just threw away a ton of paper. Maybe not literally a ton, but close. And OK, not actually threw it away, but put it into a recycling bag to go outside later.
