I got the impression it was the Nobel committee's way of saying, "See? If you're not an international asshole you might get nice things," aka, "Thank you for not being Bush."

I have to agree. I like his foreign policy chops so far, better than his domestic performance (I think he's been too timid with Congress); but less than one year into the job, I feel like he's maybe started some promising things but there's not a lot that's actually got very far yet.
Yeah, I think that's pretty much it. "Thank you for letting us sleep at night without worrying you'll nuke the world. No seriously, thanks. It's been a while."
Um, WHAT? I mean, I voted for the guy n November, but I don't quite get it.
Things going SMASH right now.
Well, the coverage of the moon thing wasn't exactly thrilling. I want more stuff goes boom.
Yay, Obama, but yeah not sure about that one.
Well, if it's not a big BOOM, remember that the Moon is very large and the bomb is kind of small.
As for the Nobel -- remember that campaign ad asking who'd be answering the phone at 3 AM in the White House?
Nobody who watched it ever bothered to wonder who'd be calling?
Me, I'm wondering if the White House switchboard thought it was a prank call.

Yeah, that sounds about right.
That Nobel committee really upped their HSQ. It does feel somehow like there's several lines of subtext in the award. One is "Thank you for not being Bush." But I think there's also a little of "Yay America! you elected a black dude." and some, "Take that, you crazy whack-a-doodle conservatives."
Sue! Did you manage to find a cat-sitter? If you haven't, I could drop by once a day to feed them.
Oh Lousie, thank you!!! I haven't and I will take you up on that. Insent
"See? If you're not an international asshole you might get nice things,"
Good a reason as any. It is certainly fodder for the news people for a day or two. My first two thoughts after coffee: 1. It is nice that I am not the only one with confidence in the man. 2. I wish I could have been at the Cheney breakfast table this morning.
