"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Doe it help that I know none of this?

Well, I didn't know most of it until I started researching it, so I was just curious about what was broadly known. And while I didn't know he was a model, I wasn't surprised since the first time I saw him out of character I thought, "He's rather a handsome dude."

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

For the record, I didn't see Borat when it came out, or his HBO show with Ali G.

My first exposure to him was in the Ali G. movie which I nabbed off cable a while back and I thought that was really funny, sharp, daring and even kind of sweet.

Since then I've seen Borat and Bruno and his turns in Sweeney Todd and Talladega Nights but I missed most of the media blitz when Borat first came out, or when HBO was pushing his show.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I did not know he was a model and breakdancer, though I remember, with pleasure, persuading Steph that he was not, in fact, ugly. He was gloriously naked in the credits for Ali G, and wow. His brother's pretty well-known, though.

bon is gonna disown me now.

I didn't see Bruno, that part of it is less my thing. But no Talledega Nights? He's the best part of the movie.

OK, so that's not the best recommendation for it.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Why would anyone make someone's waist look smaller than her head is beyond me.

My only guess is they maybe someone thought it was clever to tweak a photo until the model had the same proportions as a Barbie doll? And unfortunately instead of looking clever it looks creepy and wrong.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

But no Talledega Nights?

nope. I see so few movies now, that when I do get a chance to see stuff it is not usually comedy like that. my first choices tend toward really gritty ugly stuff or romcoms.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I've heard good things about Talladega Nights-- it falls into the group of things my sister forces bits of upon me (I made her watch Buffy and she still hasn't forgiven me), but I do regret watching Borat. God, that was tedious and unamusing.

I do think he's really goodlooking when he's not doing schtick, though, so the model thing doesn't surprise me at all.

He is way the best thing about Talledega Nights, I have to agree. He was charming in something else too, I just can't remember what.
