Went back to the hematologist for a check up. He told me the results of the lab I'd had six weeks ago-- basically, I was walking around with no and I mean NO iron in my blood. Of one of the counts, he said the upper end of normal was 200; I was at 4. I thought I heard him wrong, so I made him repeat it and he said, "Yes, FOUR."
And then on another one of the counts he said, "On this one, you were only marginally better, registering at 4% of normal."
On the upside it would make me really unattractive to vampires?
But I told him I was feeling MUCH better since I'd begun taking the iron which he definitely took as a positive. I had more blood drawn today and we'll see what that shows. Another blood draw and appt. in six weeks and hopefully, we'll be done, provided today's blood draw doesn't show anything funky.
Sheesh-- who knew?

Barb, my mom went through misery with low CBC, and of all the treatments she got this year, she said that the shots she got to raise her hematocrits was the most effective.
