I feel like he always (as far back as I was paying attention, anyway) did little things that, how shall I put this, required the benefit of the doubt, which I totally gave him because he got some things so very right in his writing (like how could anyone who gets this mean that, you know?) but those little wrongs just grew

I think he was not all that great ever AND has gotten worse over time AND people are more willing to speak out about this kind of behavior now than they were back in the Buffy/Angel days.

I know that by the time of the after-publicity from Avengers, his jokingly egotistical quips to interviewers didn't seem like they were actually joking anymore.
I think we just have to take total custody of Buffy, Angel, and Firefly.
Lindsey Ellis has an interesting video this week on her Youtube channel about The Death of the Author. It's in relation to JKR and her transphobia, but could just as easily apply to Joss.
