me either!
I just checked TV Guide.com, and they show Agent Carter on tomorrow night, after the State of the Union and another show.
It's a rerun of last week's episode.
Oh, OK. Thanks.
Also, commercial mayo is way more stable than homemade.
There used to be a modern automat in NYC, which I went to a couple of times. They had delicious macaroni and cheese croquettes, but how can you go wrong with that?
I'm pretty sure that my mother took my sister and myself to the NY automat when I was really young ... but it would have been long enough ago that I could easily be mistaken.
I guess a resurgence wouldn't fly between modern day health codes and the way some people behave in restaurants.
Actually, I feel like I've heard they are making a comeback. In Norway? Somewhere in Europe whence they might leap back over here.
I would guess the key to a successful Automat would be high turn, so the food would stay fresh and delicious in the cases until it was selected. Complying with health codes ought to be a technologically solvable issue.
My grandmother called the laundromat, the automat. I didn't know for years that an automat was actually some kind of restaurant. I don't think Mam ever lived anywhere sophisticated enough to have a real automat, I guess she just heard the word and applied it to the thing she knew that made sense for it. This connection in my head made the conversation about automats funny and a bit confusing at first.
You may, if you like, take a guess at what Mam decided a "robot" was, when she first heard the word. Hint: it was in the movie Westworld.
