Which reminds me, I need to check my mail.

I found CTHD incredibly depressing in an I-will-never-know-love way, but it's still one of my favourite movies. I think I can come down on the pro side of nihilistic action, quite simply.

B) That's the one with the moral of "open your fucking mail!" Right? B1) Todd was once in a play where a significant moral of the story was "break the tab on tapes you don't want someone to record over" This amused us a lot, especially since it was a pretty depressing play.

I maintain that the "message" of Showgirls is "Never be the first one down the stairs."

I don't know that I have an opinion on bleak action movies. I do know I think they're funnier and more enjoyable when Shane Black writes them.

We're back from seeing Despicable Me.

It was only playing in 3D in the City and I got serious, horrible sticker shock when the matinee cost us forty-fucking-two dollars to go see. I would've walked away except we'd taken the train down, Matilda was amped to see it and we'd already been shut out of seeing the preview.

Christ. The 3D was good, but that's well more than twice what I expected to pay.

It was enjoyable though. The voice actors were intriguing because they didn't play characters based on the actors personas. In short, they acted. Julie Andrews, for example, played the mean, cold Russian mother. Jason Segal was totally unrecognizable as the nerd-villain Vector. And Steve Carrell was working a heavy Ruskie accent all movie.

I saw Despicable Me on vacation (in 2D), and enjoyed it very much. Some of the humor in there reminded me of old Warner Bros. cartoons.

We basically walked out of their yelling, "It's just so FLUFFY!"

I also liked Despicable Me, but was glad to see it in 2-D.

$42 means, what, $14 a ticket? In Manhattan (except one theater in Harlem, apparently, that I may start attending) we're up to $13 for 2-D films. 3-D run at least $16, and usually more like $17.50. Don't even get me started on Imax.

The AMC $6 pre-noon weekend movies are kind of magic, here. But I'm a teacher! In the summer I don't always want to see movies on weekends! And I've noticed a lot of movies with showings at 12:00 p.m. exactly (rather than 11:30, say, even if it means more annoying times later in the afternoon) to get around that.

Yikes, and I was grumpy about $10 3D movies here. Which, no complaints paying that for Monsters vs. Aliens and Coraline was a steal at that price, but in general if there are two digits in what I'm paying to see a movie it ought to be at a festival with the stars in attendance.

The AMC here upped their prices, so we can't even get a matinee for single digit ticket prices, and a kid's ticket for a 3-D matinee is 12-18 dollars, depending on the movie.

So forget buying popcorn. At that price they should give me popcorn. And a blowjob.
