"10 Things I Hate About You" is a rom com that stays in my heart.
I love this one, but I caught it a few weeks ago on a random channel and watching Heath Ledger made me so sad, I had to turn it off.
The "Can't Take My Eyes off of You" serenading scene is so freakin' awesome. Maaaaan, the boy was charismatic.
I HATE Taming of the Shrew but the movie deals well with the WTFness of the premise without making your modern feminist sensibilities explode in rage. Come to think of it, that "Shakespeare Re-imagined" series on BBC also did a nice job with that.
It didn't hurt that Rufus Sewell played the modern-day Petruchio, either.

Vonnie, you would have really liked the production that 'Suela and I saw last year for free in an Oakland park, by a very talented all-women cast. It was exceptional and made me see the play in a different light. 'cause, yeah, right there with you on the squick-o-meter of the source material.

(not a Gwyneth fan at all), but I agree with Hec on her hair being all kinds of adorable in it. I even took a picture of her to the salon to get the cut, but it didn't turn out half as cute at Gwyneth's. I need her stylist from that time to call me!
Movie that lots of people hate that I just love:

My in-laws saw a production of Shrew where it was made clear that Kate and Petruchio (in the end) were playing the other characters in order to get the money, and that Kate didn't believe a word she was saying.
I love Lost in Translation, Magnolia, Trainspotting and American Beauty. I generally don't like Rom Coms.
I saw (but didn't hear) Leap Year on the flight to Venice. It looked okay, but Amy Adams played a ditzy, clumsy, incompotent woman, and I just don't beieve Amy Adams in that role.
Several years ago, a local theatre did a gender-neutral concert-style production of 1776 which had a female John Adams and a male Abigail which got rave reviews. If I had heard about the production before the last week it was running, I would have made sure to have seen it.
I've seen multiple productions of Taming of the Shrew that made Kate and Petruccio likable and sympathetic, so it's very possible, even within Shakespeare's original text.
