Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
The DH, at one point: "You have that huge television! Turn on Supernatural and learn something!"
Heh. Sometimes the only lesson is "Dean cries pretty tears of Man!Pain" but it's always worth a shot.
I just got back from a benefit screening of "Girls Rock!", a documentary about the rock camp for girls that's been going on in Portland, OR for the past 10 summers. Highly recommended! The 5 day camp teaches girls ages 8-18 not only how to Rock, but also things like teamwork, self-defense and, most of all, empowerment. It culminates with a concert where all the bands formed during the camp play to a packed club audience of 600 people. The film manages to be entertaining, without being overly preachy and would make an excellent double-feature with Josie & the Pussycats! Also, like J&tP, it's available on Netflix for instant streaming.
The screening was a benefit for a Boston branch of the camp that's starting up later this summer. I (almost) wish I was a girl just so that I could volunteer!
And of course I spent most of the time yelling at the protagonists for being dumbasses.
As I've said, the movie seriously got to me and I really enjoyed it, but I hated what's his name. The character was such an asshole.

I always smile when I think of you two watching the adventures of the Winchesters.
When watching movies like that I always flash back to an Eddie Murphy routine where he said the difference between white people and black people is that when white people find out their house is haunted, they stay in the house.

What's even better is that we got his father and uncle, who are Winchester brothers, hooked on the series. So now they talk to each other in SPN quotes.
DH's uncle is the eldest, and a Marine, and his dad is definitely the emo one. But other than that, there's not much in common. I'm trying to convince them to get the tattoos.

Yeah, it was creepier than I expected, and of course I woke up at 3:14 am sure I'd heard something. But the guy was a total dick.
The rest of our conversation went thusly:
Me: (Pleakley voice, miming giving the dumbass a DVD) "Demons are dangerous. Here, educate yourself!"
DH: (Jumba voice) "He's free. He will be compelled to leave tracks in talc, open and close doors, and steal everyone's top sheet. "
Me: (Lilo voice) "Isn't it great to live in San Diego, where no one uses top sheets?"
DH: (mimes Stitch having an embolism, falling down, only one claw in frame)
