That I didn't know. Huh. I wonder if there will be bees.
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I didn't hear of Death at a Funeral the first time around, so I didn't realize it's a remake. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that I have no intention of ever seeing it.
The original was perfect for what it was and certainly worth it for the Tudyk scene.
I thought Tudyk was the only good thing about the original, and that it's hardly worth remaking. We had several walkouts when I saw it in the theatre.
I think what bothers me is that it feels like they're pretending the original never existed or at least was overlooked to a great extent (3 years old!!!) and that that is a good thing. It's sort of offensive if you liked or were invested in the original.

It feels like Chris Rock really liked the original and wanted to remake it for himself. It's not his first remake. Are you offended by The Departed, or Insomnia?
The Maltese Falcon was remade three times in a ten year period. I don't see it as a big deal.
Nope, but I didn't know of/weren't invested in those movies.
I'm not offended by The Departed, exactly, but it irritates me that it's an inferior version of a much better movie.
I would agree. I saw "The Departed" first and saw the original after and I'm like, "damn. they busted up the original movie big time."
