Sean! You're here??
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I'm in town for a couple of days visiting family that I didn't get to see over the holidays.
Just got back a bit ago. I am so, so glad I finally got to see it on the big screen in 3D. The sheer beauty of it is overwhelming (and this is after having seen it at least a half dozen times at home on the new fancy flatscreen my dad gave us for Christmas).
And ah, it was wonderful to know the film and all its rhythms and be able to guess where the next amazing 3D effect was going to be (and still jump with surprise even when I was right). And to hear Sean whimpering with delight every time Coraline mentioned Michigan, and to hear both Sean and megan gasping and squeeing and laughing themselves sick over Other!Spinks and Forcible's sea sirens battle. And the cat, and the garden, and the Beldame's pointed hungry face jutting right out over the audience, and Coraline curling up between the dressed-up pillows and swallowing down a sob. Oh. Oh. Oh.
Awww, that sounds wonderful.
And to think I missed it because I was filling out paperwork for Ricardo's promotion. I hope he appreciates my sacrifice, dammit!
Awww, that sounds wonderful.
It was.
And I was glad to learn that the 3D glasses don't really bother me. It almost made me reconsider seeing Avatar. Almost.
megan, you should see Avatar. I remember getting a huge headache from a 3D film years ago (and I am not headache-prone), but the technology is so much better.
I really have no interest in it as a film. And then there's the length. Very few films are worth sitting through almost 3 hours.
I didn't either, really, except that I am already completely out of the loop when it comes to all things Harry Potter, Matrix, Twilight, Farscape, Firefly, BSG, Spider Man, etc, and I just couldn't take being out of the conversation for yet another blockbuster.

That's excellent! And I think he'd have to consider that fair use considering his stage adaptations of films in Rushmore.
That guy's Owen Wilson voice was spot-on.
