Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I prefer the Winona Ryder/Susan Sarandon Little Women over the other feature film versions, but it's more a remake of the book than of any of the previous films.

I was thinking about Pride & Prejudice, but it's the same issue.

(See also, Peter Jackson LotR)

I fell asleep during both iterations of Solaris, but the only thing I could say was definitively better about the Soderbergh version was that it was significantly shorter.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I haven't seen Inglourious Basterds, but the original Inglorious Bastards was not good.

Huh, Safari's spellcheck doesn't mind 'basterd" but flags "inglourious"

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Do folks know there's gonna be an American version of Let the Right One In, directed by the guy who did Cloverfield? (It's called Let Me In.)

It's not so much a remake of the original movie as a new version of the book.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Will it still be boring?

I preferred The Birdcage to La Cage Aux Folles.

This site has a pretty good list:

[eta: I take that back - that list includes Vanilla Sky. PTUI.]

Your question is based on a false premise.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

eta: I take that back

I was gonna say. Pelham 1-2-3? Really?

To answer my own question, original Casino Royale was a mess.

Wikipedia has a (possibly) comprehensive list of all film remakes split into 2 sections:

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

JZ will make the case that the Julia Ormond/Harrison Ford Sabrina is better written and cast than the original with Audrey.

She can make the case, but my Audrey love is too great to admit she is right.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Hitchcock's remake of The Man Who Knew Too Much is supposed to be better than his original, right? I've only seen the remake.
