A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Somehow I find it not at all surprising with Monty Python but I'm quite shocked about Gano!

I know! He's not tall! How could he write all those songs of sexual repression and have a willing bevy of cheerleaders?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Further random tidbit: Connie Booth, John Cleese's ex-wife, co-writer of Fawlty Towers and player of Polly on said show, is now married to John Lahr, New Yorker drama critic and writer.

Huh. She's a psychotherapist in London.

Huh. She's a psychotherapist in London.

Pamela Stephenson married Billy Connolly and became a sex therapist. Must be something about those beautiful and brainy ex-commediennes....

What are your writing on Terry, Hec? I'm still very fond of the guy, as a wrote my dissertation on him and interviewed him lo those many years ago. I can see if I can dig up my interview, if you're interested, it's very exclusive (but mostly concerned with the production histories of his '80s movies, as was my diss).

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Oh, I'd love that Fiona if it's readily available. It's really just a very short bio/appreciation for the Hilobrow website.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Skepchick recaps/reviews 2012:

Bam! Boom! Explosion! Building falling down on your head! VOLCANO!

(There are spoilers in there, but it's 2012. Do you really care about the plot?)

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Confirmed: R2-D2 Finally Discovered In Star Trek

At last, here's the droid we were all looking for. In this frame you can clearly see R2-D2's cameo in JJ Abrams' Star Trek. This time there's absolutely no doubt about it: It's been confirmed by ILM.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

The formation of Python basically turned on Cleese's mancrush on Palin.

Yes, that pretty obvious during the documentary. Everyone on the Pythons seemed to really like Palin, IIRC.

Jones was probably the least able comedian, but the best conceptualist (hence his influence on the flow of the show and directing the movies).

If you watch his various historical documentaries, you'll see his flair for conceptualizing stuff shown in full color. I loved his miniseries on the Crusades--really excellent educationally, but entertaining as well.

And Bert Lahr's grandson.

I'm looking for instances where a movie remake is superior than the original. I know the classic examples are The Maltese Falcon and His Girl Friday, but I'm especially wondering if any films during the present Hollywood Remake Glut have been worthwhile.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
