ION, The 25 Scariest Moments in Non-Horror Movies
Ooh.
The only way the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" doesn't make this is list is if you disqualify it on the grounds that it's so consistently scary that it actually is a horror movie disguised as a children's film.
I've been saying that for years! It's totally a slasher flick.

I disremember - does anyone die? I mean, I'd see your point if the Blueberry girl exploded and sprayed blueberry goo all over....
No one actually dies, no. But each child has a horrible accident and is NEVER SEEN AGAIN.
I still remember Un Chien Andalou fondly. It sent numerous college athletes from my Motion Picture Appreciation class running for the toilets while I sat there chuckling thanks to 15 years of Creature Feature marathons and reading Lovecraft and King before bed.

Oh yeah, I remember. So you're left wondering WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THEM....
Didn't Wonka say he might be able to fix miniaturized TV Boy? Or that he
couldn't
fix him? For some reason I remember being more freaked out about his fate than the others. Maybe I was wondering if he was supposed to be tiny for the rest of his life....
Blair Witch Project is definitely a horror film, and there's no blood at all. So I wouldn't dismiss the argument about Willy Wonka. Though I'd probably call Willy Wonka more of a morality play.
Awesome thoughts, y'all! Thank you, and I shall pass them on.
Ooh - good one from DH - The Matrix
Heh. That and
Ocean's 11
were the first ones out of my mouth. Then, I said
Blade Runner
, but she probably wouldn't have time to pick apart BR (it's due Monday, I get my procrastination tendencies honestly).
Though I'd probably call Willy Wonka more of a morality play.
Oh, yeah. With the Oompa-Loompas' preachy little songs? Totally.
The part in the tunnel was my favorite part as a kid! That and Veruca's song.
Oh my god, the tunnel is SO jacked-up!!!
...and it's been pointed out to me more than once that Veruca's song ought to be my theme song. Particularly when I was a little girl, when I was even more of a self-entitled instant gratification junkie than I am now.

Although I don't know if "bean feast" is to be taken literally, because despite the fact that I enjoy a good legume, I don't really want, like, a banquet table of beans. That line always bugged me.
