And saying things like "Guten Morgen, meine Damen"?

Slightly more subtle than that. Otherwise it would have been a very short film.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I've also heard a story, possibly anecdotal, about how the US Army hired sociologists to root out German spies in the ranks, and they were able to find them by how they used a knife and fork.

ETA: Of course, they also do the seven thing. I didn't realize Brits don't do that.

I do the seven thing, too. So while I'd give myself away if I had to indicate the number three, I'd be fine when writing the number 7.

brillig

What about people who can't get the middle fingers to stand up right? Are we destined to be German spies ? Though if it pays well, I'd consider it.

I dunno about that, but a valuable form of non-verbal communication has been lost. Though I'm not sure if it translates in German.

Connie, both methods use the middle, so I guess you are screwed either way.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm really curious to see Basterds now.

ION, check out what I found on YouTube: Bob Clampett's animation demos for the unproduced John Carter of Mars feature. This was proposed in 1931, predating Snow White.

But distributors from he Midwest dissuaded MGM from pursuing it, saying that middle America would never buy such outlandishness. Despite (a) ERB's stories being immensely popular for decades and (b) Flash Gordon serials being successful a few years later.

Anyway, Andrew Stanton will be releasing (I hope) his John Carter in 2012.

they were able to find them by how they used a knife and fork.

Did it involve keeping the fork in their left hand? Trust the Germans to find the most efficient way to dine.

I'm curious to hear your opinion if and when.
