Well, a gathering is brie, mellow song stylings; shindig, dip, less mellow song stylings, perhaps a large amount of malt beverage, and hootenanny, well, it's chock full of hoot, just a little bit of nanny.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Robert Shaw as Quint

Speaking of RDJ, we watched the commentary on Tropic Thunder (oh, hush) the other evening. The scene where the "Four Leaf" character was introduced, with Nick Nolte peeling an orange with his hand hooks, silhouetted against sunlight through slatted louvers, Stiller said, "And that's his Quint moment." RDJ, "Oh Quint. Absolutely."

"I don't drop character till the dvd commentary."

And he didn't! He did the whole movie commentary as Hot LZ, and then when Lazarus in the movie dropped character, RDJ lapsed into Lazarus voice. He didn't do Downey till the credits rolled.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I've only not hated her in Blade Trinity. What sort of character does she play?

She plays Chris Evans'/Syd's ex-girlfriend. She's mostly a not-seen character except in flashbacks until the very end. The whole movie is basically Syd hearing that his ex-GF that he never got over is moving and there's a going away party that he crashes. He drags Jason Statham, a banker slash drug dealer, to the party with him and they spend most of the movie holed up in the bathroom snorting coke and sharing stories with lots of "you are there" flashbacks.

At first JB plays the ultra hot chick who I'm thinking "why the hell did she ever date Syd?" but when she finally shows it doesn't play out like it usually does with the "girlfriend who got away from her obsessed stalker boyfriend" scenario, and she's kind of cool. The flashbacks show a very volatile and passionate (read: swings easily to anger and hate) relationship. But she's hot. The love scenes (and I don't mean just the sex scenes) are very stylized and beautiful.

In short, she's kinda bitchy and shallow and passionate and in love and needy and kind.

It was rather disturbingly funny how much their relationship reminded me of my younger brothers relationship with his I-don't-know-what-she-is-at-this-point. Two people who drive each bat-shit crazy with their bat-shit-craziness and yet can't stay away.

Curiosity: this is the second movie where CE has sported really awful hair, but it's the same awful hair as in Sunshine, before he gets a haircut. So, is he getting the same crappy wigs, or is his hair really that shitty long? (The CE eye candy in the movie is only scene briefly in the flashbacks, unfortunately).

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I thought he looked much better with the longer hair and scruffy beard.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Anyone heard of this Brad Pitt guy?

Brad Pitt Joins Sherlock Holmes

Brad Pitt is joining the cast of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes.

He is set to arrive in London Tuesday to begin filming scenes as Holmes' nemesis Moriarty. He is expected to shoot all over the city, including the Royal Victoria Dock, Pontoon Docks, Pinewood and Chatham Docks in Kent.

...

The film was set to open this December, but has been pushed back to 2010.

brillig

I'm looking forward to that movie. It may be a glorious train wreck, but I like Ritchie's stuff.
