A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
In hindsight not the best choice, but I managed. Interesting compared to The Martian which in many ways is similar, but did not ping me in the same ways.
I tried to watch Gravity on TV at home and that first crack-the-whip spacewalk scene with Bullock and Clooney sent me diving for the remote. I'll just have to take everyone's word for how great the movie is.
Oh dang, I forgot I wanted to see Mr Holmes and Gravity!
I found Mr. Holmes very slow.
I loved Mr. Holmes. It was slow but I felt it suited the tone. I cried, though.
I also loved Gravity. Enough to forgive the few physics mistakes. But if you get vertigo watching people spin around weightless, you might want to skip it.
I hated Gravity so much! I was so angry about all the stupid dead child stuff. Why couldn't she have just been a freaking scientist doing science in space? UGH!
I, too, would like to see more heroes/heroines without trauma. Ordinary people who have to become extraordinary.

Yeah, but then the trauma starts (c.f., Frodo, walking bag of pain).
I'm good with that. That's why they have stories made about them.
