I loved Costner in Fandango, but then, I have an unreasoning love for that movie and its entire cast.
Agreed on wishing they would have developed the relationship between Paden and Stella more.
'Out Of Gas'
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

He went on to make Waterworld And then somehow he didn't learn his lesson, and then he made The Postman.
My Theory Of Kevin Costner is that he's good if he's making a sports movie. He's charming as hell in Tin Cup (which also has Cheech and Rene Russo), and I love him in Bull Durham and American Flyer.
Fandango deserves a lot of love.
I loved him in Bull Durham and A Perfect World and actually Dances With Wolves, although that started grate after it was the only movie ever shown on TV for years, it seemed. Oh, also No Way Out. That was the Navy one, right?
Yeah, I did like No Way Out a lot-- that was before Sean Young completely descended into the craxy and they had great chemistry.
American Flyers was great, but I generally like Costner best as some sort of rebel.

I have to toss Field of Dreams and For Love of the Game as counter arguments.
Yeah, but Field of Dreams wasn't really a sports movie.
perhaps not, but it is about the love of a sport. sports are inextricably linked to the movie. sports are played. I think it is a sports movie.
kind of like how "shawshank redemption" is a prison movie. It ain't Attica, but it's a prison movie.
Saw Public Enemies last night. Depp was great, the movie sure LOOKED good, and the Dillinger story is amazing, but it just didn't amount to much more than a light entertainment with lots of shooting. I still enjoyed it, though, because of the aforementioned Mr. Depp.
That's what one of the reviews I saw said, that it's just the story of Dillinger without the extra depth or commentary you'd be expecting.
