A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Not to change the subject, but this movie looks, if possible, to be even more awesome than 2012 or that giant shark vs. giant... squid, was it? Anyway, you gotta see this preview, and tell me that I'm not crazy when I say this preview is really... something....

RoboGeisha trailer is awesome, includes weaponized tempura shrimp

There is no part of this trailer that is not made of awesome. A robot geisha transforms into a tank. Two robot geishas (I guess) spew poison milk (don't ask) out of their titties at an opponent. A girl gets stabbed to death in the butt with a giant sword. Robot girls make giant swords pop out of their butts, presumably with which to stab other people in their butts. "Bust Machine Gun." And a dude is blinded with tempura shrimp.

All this and more in the trailer for Noboru Iguchi's new film RoboGeisha - you may recall his similarly-themed films Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police. According to the website, the film will be "in theatre fall 2009."

One comment:

The "so bad it's good" award has at least one strong entry this year. Winning scene for me? Buildings spewing blood after being crushed by a giant robot. The robo-sword pants makes for a close second, though.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I feel dirty now.

Reminds me of this f***ed up movie I watched when I was wee with this guy who chops off these two girls heads and switches them and then rapes them.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

That...was amazing. WHY DO THE BUILDINGS BLEED?

Another board is having their "question of the day" being all about movies, specifically "What is your favorite movie about dance, whether it's a musical or just a movie about dancing in general?"

I mentioned a bunch of classics, but ended up settling on All That Jazz, especially pointing out the "Take Off with Us" number that steals the show, ending with Sandahl Bergman taking off her bra and being the center of a pseudo-orgy of writhing dancers. I also loved the finale of "Bye Bye Life" with Ben Vereen and Roy Scheider.

"What is your favorite movie about dance, whether it's a musical or just a movie about dancing in general?"

Probably Strictly Ballroom. I also really like Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, which is Jacques Demy's dancing companion to the singing Les Parapluies de Cherbourg. It stars Catherine Deneuve and her sister Françoise Dorléac, as well as George Chakiris and Gene Kelly.

Strictly Ballroom for me as well. One of the things that I especially love is that when showing a super awesome king of the world dancer/dance, they goof it right the frig up, rather than a dance that inadvertantly sucks but was supposed to rock.

Because books.

I love All That Jazz, Kathy. One of my all-time favorites of any kind. Roy Scheider is so fantastic in that role.
