I seriously doubt that -- Pacific Rim didn't do that well! And ScarJo is a Name, in addition to being a white woman with big boobs.

Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Calvary was also not a good thing for me to watch. I need to avoid death for awhile. And actually, I'm really pissed off that the loophole in the beginning wasn't followed through on. Or that the fact that the killer was known to the main character wasn't really shown in the interactions during the film. But I love me some Brendan Gleeson. And now I'm back to being weepy.
Have we really not discussed The Hobbit* here yet? I finally saw it today and was underwhelmed, but pleased with myself for recognizing Billy Boyd as the singer of the closing credits song.
I guess I don't actually have a whole lot to say about it, except that "everyone fights everyone else for an hour or more" doesn't really do much for me as a plot. Oh well, eventually someone will do a 2-hour fan edit of all three movies that I will probably quite enjoy.
*This year's Hobbit, that is.
I'm seeing it Tuesday night. I have loooow expectations, but two people I love to talk movies with liked it, so I need to catch up.
I really disliked it. I mean...I was engaged enough while it was happening but have zero desire to watch it again, nor the others. Quite the opposite experience from LotR.
See. That's really me.
I watched the first Hobbit via amazon, much after the fact. Skipped the second one and had no desire to see this one, outside being up to date with the pals.
Totally different experience from LOTR, of which, I a can't get enough.
Yeah, I enjoyed it well enough in the moment, though I spent a lot of time laughing at how silly a lot of the OTT battle scenes were. But (apart from being curious about how much it could be improved if you lopped off 3/4 of the running time) I have no real desire to sit through any of them again.
...I do kinda want to haul out my LOTR DVDs, though.
I just finished a rewatch of LOTR, straight through, with commentaries, and all the documentaries. It was a ritual for Hubby and me. I should get Hobbit 2, just for the commentary, because I loved what the Dwarves were doing. Maybe I'll just wait for the extended Hobbit 3 DVD.
I've enjoyed all three Hobbit movies, partly because I saw them with my BFF, who is a huge Tolkien fan. She loved them, was happy with most of the changes Jackson made, and explained all the stuff to me that I didn't understand. I was invested; I cared about almost all the characters. Knowing how Bilbo's story ends made this part of his story all the more poignant. It wasn't a perfect movie - or trilogy - by any means, but I enjoyed it all. I doubt I'll watch it again by myself, but BFF and I will sit down one weekend and have a marathon of The Hobbit and LOTR and that will be amazing, though.
I saw Hobbit 1 and loved Bilbo. He just does a great job. I didn't see Hobbit 2 although my family rented it, and none of us has seen Hobbit 3 (though they will probably eventually rent it.)
