I love him, but take a vacation, Cumberbatch!

Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
David Strathairn would actually be my first choice.
Oh I like this and would subscribe to your newsletter. Plus I'm still pissed about how Alphas ended (or not as the case may be - poor Gary).
I really wanted Oded Fehr
Same here.

That's my reaction, too. I think he'd do wonderfully in the role, but he's in So. Many. Things.
I haven't looked at Tumblr yet. Has it blown up?
I'm slightly miffed at the trailer for Revenge of the Green Dragon for using a cover of House of the Rising Sun. The lyrics seem appropriate, but the fact that the repeated nickname for Japan was used to advertise a movie about Chinese characters stood out. Did they think "appropriate lyrics and vaguely referencing Asian peoples" was brilliant and acceptable?

So very much. The wailing and gnashing of teeth flooded my dash for most of yesterday evening, with the, "Wait, not quite" posts coming in just as I was heading to bed.
I think BC would do well in the role, but I really don't need him in every franchise I watch. Oded Fehr was on my short list, too.
Or, you know, a Captain Marvel movie instead. (BC could play Chewie.)
Someone on Tumblr said (and I agree) that they really wish BC would take a break from these big franchises and, like, go do a comedy. He's remarkably good at comedy.
Actually, I'm quite interested in seeing him in "Enigma" about Alan Turing.
I thought Imitation Game was Turing. And, yes, I am, as well.
D'oh! Yes, "The Imitation Game" is the BC one; "Enigma" was 2001.

That was me, I think.
I'm off Tumblr until people stop being stroppy children with a flair for the dramatic, so figure 48 hours or so until the next outrage. I mean, while I think Cumberbatch could play the role in his sleep so it'd be uninspired casting and I want to see him do comedy, damn it, the amount of name insulting and appearance bashing has me wanting to smack the stupid out of people again.
But, you know, I also think there's no way to make a Doctor Strange movie that isn't filled with an epic amount of oh honey no, so, eh. Like, this is the hill that the kids want to die on for diversity in casting? Seriously?
Just... why, pumpkins? Do you even have any familiarity with the character?
(Also, once more, fandom is managing to make some Jewish fans very uncomfortable with their shifting racial classifications of Israeli actors of European Jewish parentage [Fehr, Gadot, Portman] according to fandom's social justice whims and if the actor's ever said anything problematic or viewed as problematic. Though like a few of the FFA people, I suspect most of the people who'd been fancasting Oded Fehr were operating under the assumption that he was Egyptian.)
