What, you guys didn't like Au revoir les enfants ? Quelle horreur!

Oh no, I love it. Makes me cry every time.

Actually, now that I think of it, it would make a great double feature with Le Dernier Métro.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I loved his last film -- a no-costume adaptation of Uncle Vanya

Vanya on 42nd Street? I loved that movie.

Hi, javachik!

That is truly disturbing Tom, especially given java's veggie status.

Actually, in keeping with the 60s French theme, "La Javanaise" is a Serge Gainsbourg song.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

The River is a gorgeous, gorgeous film. I also love the other big Rumer Godden adaptation, Powell and Pressburger's Black Narcissus. I haven't seen either of them in a while, and there is certainly some problematic colonialist aspect in both, but they make for hypnotically beautiful films.

I haven't seen The River. In fact, I don't think I've seen any of Renoir's US work.

I do really like Le Crime de M. Lange.

Black Narcissus is spectacularly beautiful.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I have not seen any Renoir, and I can't remember how long it took me to figure out he wasn't the same person as the artist.

Well, they were father/son.

ETA: Maybe they should use Renoir père and Renoir fils, like for Dumas.

Oh, I didn't know that!

There are two Dumases?

Our wings are not tired.

I haven't seen Black Narcissus. Is it one I should hold out seeing on big screen or can I dvd it?
