Also, I don't have a headache anymore, so GotG also has healing powers.
It's Groot! Herbs heal, right? He's a plant...ergo...
I have a mad crush on Rocket and am hoping for many years of Legolas/Gimli-like buddidom from those two.
So glad your headache is gone, Zen!
If they don't make a
little dancing Groot in a vase for us to buy,
they are missing a huge marketing opportunity.
they are missing a huge marketing opportunity.
Someone is certainly taking that opportunity.
This comic is relevant (and 100% non-spoilery) for GotG: [link]
Someone is certainly taking that opportunity.
But,
does it dance?
Favorited, nevertheless.
I don't know how many people have heard the "news" that Studio Ghibli is closing down. Apparently that's not precisely correct--a translation of an interview with Toshio Suzuki (a Ghibli producer) who says instead "We're thinking about disbanding the production department and making a big change to the larger view of Studio Ghibli."
Discussing Miyazaki's retirement, he says "right about now, we will take a short rest and think about what's next."
So the news isn't as bad as it initially was reported (source, Tumblr screenshots with untranslated Japanese subtitles--I don't understand how if Wikipedia is not a reliable source, TUMBLR should be reported verbatim from, but whatevs...)
Whatever the news really is, the landscape will change beyond Miyazaki's retirement, it seems.
So, I went to see GotG last night, like I said. And I did enjoy it, I really did. But I have feminist issues with it (and a few pop culture reference/linguistic issues, because I am Super Pedantic).
As I was watching, I thought, "Man, she's awfully Widow-esque." And, when I said this to my brother, he said, "Well, she's an assassin. What kind of
daughter would you expect Thanos to have?"
And I didn't argue with him, but that is the LEAST interesting choice for which of the group is gonna be a girl, if we're only going to have one girl (which, let's be clear, I don't see any reason that has to be the limit).
I mean, I would really have loved to see a lady playing Rocket or Drax* (and, while we're at it, how about Yondu?). I don't think Peter would have played well, sadly, because sexism.
* Yes, Dave Batista was basically perfect, but the point stands, I think.
Has Marvel genderswapped any characters for the movies? I'm not familiar with GotG so I don't know if the lineup has included other women besides Gamora.
I don't understand how if Wikipedia is not a reliable source, TUMBLR should be reported verbatim from, but whatevs...
Yeah, I've tried discussing this with journalism students a few times and they really don't see the problem. Their answer usually amounts to "because convention," which, OK, I use to explain why I want them to indent paragraphs and such, but that's different!
