My dad is THE CUTEST. He doesn't go see movies in the theater anymore, partly because he has diabetic nerve pain in his legs that makes it too painful to sit that long. But he loves animated movies. LOVES. So he just called me and said "The LEGO movie is out! I just bought it!"
I said, "Dad, everything is awesome."
Propaganda style Panem posters. Collins' worldbuilding might have had flaws, but I thought the mindset of the Capitol was prety clear. I am seeing a lot of comments around that don't seem to get polished propaganda.
So is anyone
excited
by the new
Star Wars
movies? Or are most people like me, thinking "They'll probably suck or be so-so, but I'll probably see them anyway"?
I'm moderately interested.

I swear I had to reread that to remind myself that ita didn't mean Olde Skool goth magazine "Propaganda".
"Edge of Tomorrow" was much better than I expected to to be. I'd go so far as to say it was good. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Right? It was kind of a perfect role for Tom Cruise.

Dying violently repeatedly? Yeah, I can get behind that. And unlike Mel, his crazy religious bullshit doesn't taint the early and intermittent stuff I've liked in retrospect. But, yeah, TC being Wile E.? I can so get behind that.
Tom Cruise is not a box-office draw for me. He was perfect in this, though. It was funny, too, which I didn't expect. A few times I laughed out loud. I liked that
the other members of his team got to be heroes too, even if they didn't remember it,
and I was happy when I realized that
at the end he didn't just go find her because he loved her, but because he could tell her what really happened and tell her that she saved the world.
They did the timey-wimey stuff really well, and it was all internally consistent. And the aliens were scary and weird as shit (though I didn't understand why they called the aliens Mimics). I might even get it on Blu-ray and watch it again.
