A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Aw. RIP Mr. Hoskins. It seems like he was well loved, bless him. I always admired his work.
His role in Mermaids was one of my favorites.
That was a good one. I think I first saw him in Mona Lisa and second in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which set the stage for never really knowing what to expect from him.
The Long Good Friday, a very early-80s British gangster flick, has an amazing Hoskins performance (Helen Mirren is in it too, but she doesn't actually have a whole lot to do, though she does it well).
The final sequence of that movie - one long medium-to-close shot of Hoskins going through a variety of emotions, is absolutely stunning.
As is often the case, I concur with Frank. Love the Long Good Friday for those very reasons.
Also: Joss stole the most famous scene in Long Good Friday for Buffy.

Any Bay Area-istas want to come see the new Xmen movie in Vallejo May 31 @5pm? My company is sponsoring a viewing, so it's cheap. I am not sure but I think I am probably limited to one guest. Profile address is good if anyone wants to trek out to the boonies.
