Speaking of Jennifer Lawrence, I finally saw Catching Fire. Definitely better than the first movie. I was sad Amanda Plummer got such a swift end, though it fits with how it played in the novel.
Jena Malone was FUCKING FIERCE though. Wow.

We saw the National Theatre Frankenstein tonight, with Jonny Lee Miller as the Creature. He is ASTONISHING. Dear god.
I totally forgot about Shrift's warning about the rapey-ness until it actually happened. I wasn't traumatized or anything; my actual reaction was "WHAT??? ...wait, I think Shrift warned me about this. Damn it."
Really, all I can say about the production is that Miller left me gobsmacked. I already really liked him from Elementary, and he's did some really outstanding work in S1, but he blew me away in Frankenstein.

Yes -- the reverse casting is playing next Sunday. I don't know if we'll go, because tickets are $20 each and I am a cheap freelancer. Plus, I loved this casting so much I'm not sure I want to see the reverse.

I saw the version with Cumberbatch as the Creature and I left feeling like the actors were probably more suited to the opposite roles. Cumberbatch is a more heady, intellectual actor and Miller seems to be more instinctual and in touch with his impluse, so I really wish I saw with the casting you did. I mean, they were both fine, but I felt that their characters were making them work against their natural tendencies as actors.

I'm glad I saw them both but I'm glad I saw CumberCreature first, because it was wonderful but afterwards I also felt that Miller was better suited as the Creature and BC as the Doctor. Still. See them both if you can.

I wonder if that’s ultimately why we see so many British actors on TV nowadays. They tend to have more background in theater, and can handle the grueling pace of TV production better.
