It made me burst into some very undignified snort-laugh.
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Fast Furious Feminism. Interesting discussion of the female characters in the franchise (spoilers for entire series).
I kinda feel she was too harsh on some characters and almost too kind in other places. I give the series a better feminism score because the chick action scenes are not in any way inferior to the guy ones. That seems to be complicated for our favourite feminist directors.

Yeah, I understand what she says about Mia, but I think the fact that she's not relegated to one role—that she can be sister, mother, wife, etc, in addition to driving and getting in on the action—makes her fairly well rounded. Does being damseled automatically make a character not feminist? Women do seem to get damseled/killed more often than men in the franchise, which is worth noting, I think; it would be good to have the male characters in mortal peril once in a while.

That's a good point.

I think the men are often in mortal peril, but those are fight and chase scenes and taken as required ingredients of action movies. Would what happened to Lettie be damselling if she'd been male? I argue 50-50. Han is only called doomed, not damselled.
Repost for Jilli: IO9's 10 weirdest vampire movies EVAR.
That Kung Fu Vampire looks super cray-cray. I have to see it.
Nude alien vampire queen. The role Matilda May was born to play. Especially the “nude” part. Best casting evar.
Awww, the comments mention The Hunger, Bunnicula, and Near Dark. My black heart is glowing.
Lair of the White Worm IS pretty damn weird.
Actually, the comments have a bunch of movies for me to check out. Yay, more vampire movies!
