Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
And Jagger made a great villain.
Mick was great in it.
Dana, regarding Jodie Foster's character and her accent: I thought the character was supposed to be French -- she had a French name ("Delacourt") and spoke French with her family. Her odd accent was supposed to be from a twinge of French accent in someone who's otherwise completely fluent in English, I think. I agree it sounded a bit weird though.
If that was the intent, it didn't sound French to me. And I know Foster is fluent in French, so it's a shame that the accent was so distracting.
I saw Mud last night. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I was a little worried there for a minute about the portrayal of women characters. They weren't nearly developed enough, but they weren't all totally bad - like the way I thought they were going to go.
I also went to see Wolverine. The best thing I can say for it is that it was not as faily as it could have been.
Hugh Jackman, bless his abs, is starting to look tired of this role. The love interest did a lot of damseling. Will Yun Lee was there, looking hot and tormented - an unexpected bonus! I liked the anime-haired girl-swordfighter with the kicky boots.
He seemed plenty energetic/invovled to me, but the workout routine a guy of his age has to undergo to stay that ripped is taking its toll on his features. As fond as I am of seeing Hugh's furry pecs, it may be time for him to ease up on the weight training and start keeping his shirt on in movies - he'll look younger for longer.

This movie is AWESOME. See it! SEE IT! Seriously. It's sleazy as hell, but Reese is hysterical and Keifer is just so wonderfully slimey and gross. I mean, it's Little Red Riding Hood updated and gnarled out.
So I lucked out and got tickets to an advance screening of The World's End in Chicago about a week ago. I have to agree with Jilli that it isn't as funny as the other movies in the Cornetto trilogy, but I still loved it. It was a great look at how addiction fucks up everyone around the addict, not just the addict himself.
Simon Pegg really impressed me. But so did Nick Frost. It was nice to see him get a chance to be the totally BAMF character in one of these movies.
As a bonus, we were treated to a Q&A with Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Edgar Wright is a tad on the pretentious side, but Simon and Nick were absolutely adorable, as we all know.
