Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm torn between wondering how close an adaptation of the original it is, or just deciding I'll see the damned movie next week like the normal way of doing stuff.

I dunno, the book is on my TBR list but I haven't gotten to it yet.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

So Beau said to me "I have never seen a good Bond film" - an admission that made me gasp.

He did not care for "Skyfall" and admittedly it was not one of my favorites. If I wanted to show him 2 or 3 good Bond movies, where should I begin?

He and I have seen the recent "Casino Royale" and I liked that movie more than he did. I'm thinking he does not like Bond, but before I put that conclusion in cement, I want to show him some good ones. Rolling Stone mag has the top 10 in this order:

    • Goldfinger
    • From Russia With Love
    • On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
    • Casino Royale (2006)
    • Skyfall
    • Dr. No
    • You Only Live Twice
    • The Spy Who Loved Me
    • Thunderball
    • Die Another Day

This list concerns me because he didn’t like Skyfall and if it really is ranked 5, then the only hope I have is with the top 3 here. I also cannot believe Die Another Day is in the top 10!! Maybe Peter Travers is smoking crack.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I enjoyed Live and Let Die more than 6-10, but you never know. Maybe Moonraker is the way to go?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Die Another Day, really? I love GoldenEye. I thought that would be on there instead. It's directed by the same guy who did Casino Royale.

Ann, that's a ferret.

I'll go with You Only Live Twice, even if it has nothing whatsoever in common with the book. Well, more than The Spy Who Loved Me, but that's the bottom of the barrel for the movie taking nothing from the book.

And For Your Eyes Only deserves a spot on the list.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

From Russia With Love is considered the grittiest. It also has my favorite Bond girl in Daniela Bianchi.

Oh Her Majesty's Secret Service is the one with George Lazenby. I actually love that movie but that's often a deal maker for folks. But it has great sets and Diana Rigg and one of the best scores and some awesome action sequences. And James Bond in a kilt with a woman (Angela Scoular! I love her) writing her room number on his thigh in lipstick.

Thunderball is considered the quintessential Bond movie in many ways. That and Goldfinger set the template.

The Spy Who Loved Me is the best of the Roger Moore ones and entertaining, but it's still fairly light and tends towards the arch comedy.

Goldeneye is the best of the Pierce Brosnan ones and has Sean Beane.

But frankly if he didn't love the Craig Casino Royale, I don't think he'll like anything else better.

"already on the kiss-cam with Karl Marx"-

The latest ones don't do it for me either, for all that I can accept that they seem to be more what Fleming might have wanted. I miss the goofy props and innuendo.

Ann, that's a ferret.

I'm probably in a minority here, but I think Lazenby had the potential to be a great Bond. He showed a few growing pains in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but I think he'd have grown into the role.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Yeah I m suspicious that Beau won't like any Bond I show him. I grew up with Bond movies and haven't seen the classics in awhile so at least it will be fun for me.
