'Jaynestown'
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
I'm not at all arguing that the Avatar world is based on Asian cultures. Every detail is Asian-inspired. But I think they purposefully drew the characters to bend and mix stereotypes (that's not the right word...maybe genotypes?). Inuits don't tend to have big blue eyes, for example, nor did queue-wearing Chinese tend to sport mutton chops.
That said, I've been wondering if M. Night has opted away from East Asian actors on purpose, since Avatar's also the story of China's expansion and occupation of Tibet, from a pro-Dalai Lama standpoint.
Trailer for In the Loop, which I wanna watch *right now*. It looks freakin' brilliant.
Oh, my goodness. I need to see that.
That does look pretty hilarious. "Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult!"
So Michigan is slowly turning into The Place for Hollywood locations. In my town and surrounding area, we've had Transformers, Whip It, some Michael Cera film, and most recently Stone starring Robert DeNiro and Edward Norton. Well, welcome to Ypsi Mr. DeNiro. [link]

They are now saying that Carradine died not from suicide, but from autoerotic asphyxiation gone wrong.
(Clyde Bruckman!)
While I am still sad he died, a part of me is thinking, "72 years-old, and he went out, still flying his freak flag high. Way to go, dude!"
Way to go, dude!
It certainly is quite a way to go.
It has a bit more cachet than the usual drug overdose thing.
A sick part of me would like to do a LOLCAT of D. Carradine, Fox Mulder, Michael Hutchense and Vaughn Bode with the message of "Auto-Erotica: UR Doin it Worng!"
