Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I know, right?

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I was talking Verbs with my 23 y/o seasonal and she's just adorable. When I clarified that it was Christian Bale who starred as Batman, she remarked how it was funny how a big role like Batman could suddenly launch an actor into the limelight. I've only got a decade on her, but I felt like I was 60 when I had to remark that Christian Bale had made a name for himself decades ago. Maybe it's not a generational thing so much as someone who doesn't dig movies that much? I thought it was bad when I had to explain who The Goonies were.

I'm terribly pleased with my volunteers and interns this year. They're mostly Firefly/Buffy fans and wear geeky t-shirts to movies. The last place I worked I was mocked endlessly about Firefly. Now I think I've arrived. Everyone's favourite colour is orange and they dig Captain Tightpants. If I was paid a living wage I'd be in Heaven.

Watching Verbs, I couldn't believe in some moments that I was watching Tom Hardy. He was like four times bigger than in Warrior! And yet, the speed with which he wailed on Batman near the end was incredible. God, he made me cry at the end, and then I laughed inappropriately as his head was blasted off his body.

Apparently not. She mentioned Drew Barrymore as a comparison. I was heartened that at least she'd seen E.T., but disgruntled at the comparison.

For a while, when going over tool safety with the kids at work, I'd bring up The Goonies and the rake as for why you don't put the tines up. After the third group that looked at me blankly, I gave up and cried in a quiet corner.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm playing the age card for this one. I think I'm ten years too old to appreciate Goonies.

I'm the right age to appreciate Goonies, I just don't.
