Look, you got a little stabbed the other day. That's bound to make anyone a mite ornery.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

B-52! Cadillac of the skies!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm never really looking to be whooping about the Batfamily. There's a reason Steph was my least favourite Batgirl, and Cass one of my favourite characters ever.

I mean, there's a fistpump there, but I want lots of fucked uppedness. Oh, I'm so excited.

I'm on the threshold of getting a midnight ticket, but maybe that window is gone...but the excitement is large in this one.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Steph,

The first time I saw TDK, I thought it was pretty bleak. But upon repeat viewings, I don't feel that way. After all, some bad things did happen, but not the worst things. I kind of like Nolan's whole hero sacrifice things he has got going on.

FWIW, I think "Memento" is some of the bleakest shit out there and even "Prestige" didn't match that.

"Inception" is quite hopeful and life affirming.

I'm kind of thinking that Batman will end on a hopeful, life affirming note but we might have a rough 30 minutes to get there.

I'm ambivalent about box office and what I think TDKR will do or not do. It's going to make a helluva lot of $$ here and overseas. I am not sure it will break records, but I'm not looking for it to.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I loved TDK in theatres, but when I tried to watch it again on DVD I barely made it through. I was so. bored. After about the third time we'd cycled through the "chase scene / Joker speech / brief pause for B-plot" sequence, I honestly couldn't remember what I'd loved so much about it the first time around.

So I have to keep reminding myself that I did really love TDK in theatres, and so DKR will probably not disappoint as long as I don't try to watch it on DVD.

Hey. New board.

I bought the blu ray and felt much the same, Jessica. Movie too long, two face wasted, don't really care about the moral quandary of cell phone spying (loves that Avengers used the same plot point with no moral quandary and it appears to have pinged nobody - frankly, most of the world is remarkably unconcerned about privacy issues so it's a pretty dull moral quandary as far as they go). Joker really is compelling but not enough for the slog, and I don't really believe that a district attorney could have captured the public imagination so quickly and importantly as to be worth the sacrifice - despite all the setup the ending doesn't feel earned. And I'm kind of upset that the Joker makes two face, not the mob guy. Acid to the face in the courtroom is a good plot point! Why must the movies always change it?

Huh. Universal is pushing back the release date of Bourne Legacy by a week, because The Avengers is still ruling the theaters. [link]

... have they forgotten that there's an obvious draw in BL for Avengers fans?

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

When we saw the trailer for BL, Tim leaned over and said, "Well, there's at least HALF of a Hawkeye-and-Black-Widow-Shoot-Things-For-Two-Hours movie."

Fair point, indeed.

Interesting. The Bourne Legacy article I linked to earlier said it was to move it clear of Batman.

Wait--that's what this quotes too.

But they sum it up to mean they said Avengers. I'm confused.

I just went back to look at what I thought after seeing Dark Knight the first time. I enjoyed it, but had quibbles, and kinda thought the plot was sacrificed to the themes. And I thought it might improve on a second viewing, but I wasn't confident that it would.

Since then I've seen it, I dunno, a dozen times, maybe more? So obviously it did improve for me. I still have quibbles, but they're things like, "this bullet-reconstruction scene sure is goofy."

I am curious why it seems bleak. I mean... it's pretty strongly in favor of sacrifice and altruism and, well, not murdering bad guys even if you've got plenty of reason to do so.

I feel Batman's pain. But also the necessity of his pain. I like his pain. He has GREAT pain. It's a mixed bag.

Man, Emma Stone is the entire reason I want to see Spider-Man. I'm reading her IO9 interview, and massive girlcrush. She's just so...she's the prettiest.
