Hey. New board.

Am I the only one who still thinks The Dark Knight Rises will actually perform significantly below expectations? My guess is that it does way better than Batman Begins but not as well as The Dark Knight, ending its run somewhere in the $400 millions. I admittedly base this only on two middle-aged women (my mother and mother-in-law) I know who saw The Dark Knight because of Heath Ledger as The Joker, but are pretty unlikely to see this one, so perhaps it is not very well researched.

Punishingly Intricate

Just saw Safety Not Guaranteed today and OH MY GOD! so good. I loved it more than I have loved a movie I've seen in the theater in a long time.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Oh, that's good to hear! I heart Aubrey Plaza and time travel, so I was interested.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Interesting! It's playing locally, but I hadn't heard of it before I saw the listing yesterday.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Is the official expectation for TDKR to bring in more than the others? I haven't really gotten the sense that better than 1 and less good than 2 is disappointing. But I don't really know how genre trilogies generally perform relatively at the box office.

I'd read a little about it but didn't have too many expectations going in. It is sweet and very funny and surprising. And surprisingly touching. And it just really hangs together well.

I love Aubrey Plaza, who is from my hometown and went to my tiny high school (a good long time after I did), so it's great to see her doing well. The character is not that far removed from April Ludgate but there are enough differences that it doesn't feel like she's just playing herself or something like that.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Safety Not Guaranteed

I've never even heard of this movie! It's not playing anywhere near me, unfortunately.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Is the official expectation for TDKR to bring in more than the others?

I think after The Avengers box office, and the previous movie I'd say: Yes. Also, the last movie in a series tends to make the most money.

But I don't think it will beat TDK.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

My 90 year old mother and a 62 year old friend saw Keyhole and hated it. The think it is badly done PWP. (They left after an hour, so maybe some plot kicked in after they left.) Fair evaluation? Or are they missing something because of age. (Note that they know the term PWP.)

Hey. New board.

Is TDKR going to be 3d? If so, I'm sure they're hoping for as good or better. I don't think they'll be disappointed with 400 million, but I bet they won't be as happy as they want to be. Which probably qualifies as disappointed.
