In other news, I went to see Battleship this afternoon. It was as cliched and corny as everyone says, but also immensely fun. It made good on the twin promises of lots of shit blowing up and Taylor Kitsch looking hotter than the incoming fire, so my money was well spent.
Word, that's all I needed to hear.
Yeah, I'll go see
Battleship,
mostly because I like battleships.
Here looks to be a haven for Battleship discussion: [link]
I finally saw Avengers yesterday (wanted to wait until my dad's eye had healed enough from surgery that he could see-it see-it with me). So much fun.
I had a feeling
Coulson was going to die
just because I knew Joss and it was totally his M.O. so I'm actually kind of surprised it wasn't his fault this time.
However, others have pointed out that 1) We only have Fury's word for it, and he lied about the cards and 2) Tony makes a joke about Life Model Decoys earlier in the movie that could potentially be foreshadowing.
That said, I think the team would be super-pissed if they were lied to about it.
In any case, without re-treading all the stuff that's been said too much, I loved that everyone got their moments to shine, that Joss took the time to let all of them interact and play off each other, and I really hope they have Joss locked down for the sequel (and get him to at least throw his two cents in on any future Hulk and Black Widow movies).
Let me also echo the request for a Black Widow and Hawkeye in Budapest movie.
Yesterday I stumbled across a review of Avengers (don't remember where) that talked about the first Hulk Out and mentioned Loki's glowing staff & how the Avengers were being influenced by it prior to the attack.
So maybe it was a combo of Loki's magic and being stunned by the attack that led to the loss of control.
That's what I think, askye. Banner seemed like he was really trying to hold back the transformation as much as possible and you could see the regret and fear in his face when he turned it to Black Widow. I think the fact he held off so long pissed the Other Guy off so much, he tried to take it out on Black Widow.
Okay--I started to skim the Something Awful movie threads, and now my head is dizzy. What is the poster ancestry of SA? I mean, what's their demographic? They seem to throw a lot of big words at small concepts (no, I don't mean the Battleship thread, I'm actually reading about phallic symbols and authorial intent in The Avengers) and I'm trying to get a mental picture The People Who Care About That.
phallic symbols and authorial intent in The Avengers
The hammer is Joss's penis?
EVERYTHING is Joss's penis.
Apparently modern literature has reached the point where any power is a phallic symbol, because penises are all that and then some.
There is a point at which crit becomes entirely useless, and that Avengers thread looks about ten pages past it.
