The Ring messed my sleep up for a couple days too, though while watching I didn't think it was as scary as the Japanese original or Ju-on.

The part of The Ring that got me was the video. *That's* the kind of disturbing that gives me nightmares.
It reminded me of my feelings for Jennifer's Body, which I also wanted to like more than I did.
I adore Jennifer's Body, but I don't really think of it as strictly horror.

For me it was the initial videotape victim in the closet. Not just the makeup FX, something about the way she moved too.

We just got back from seeing Cabin in the Woods. I liked it more than I thought I would because I'm not usually a horror movie fan. Being ME-savvy, I totally figured out what was going on, but there were some funny stuff in it and I walked out of the theater chuckling. Matt, ITA about the end.

I loved the ending, though I can totally see where you're coming from, Matt. I would have been happy either way, but it felt right for this movie.

I've got a pretty extreme startle reflex. Movies where things jump out of shadows or stuff comes out of nowhere with big dramatic music leave me jumpy for days. Should I avoid Cabin in the Woods? (The one Scream movie I saw drove me nuts, because they used that "dum DUMMMM" music when things happened like some random guy walked in and waved, and it made me jump every single time.)

If you think you're seeing a horror movie, there aren't that many startley-scary bits. But for a movie in general, yes.
I liked it! And I guess I only see movies with Hemsworths this year? Also seeing it back to back with Hunger Games was kind of fascinating, and not only for that reason.
