Ben: I didn't ask for any of this. I just want to be normal. Gronx: I wanted to be an underwear model. We play the hand we're dealt.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

If you're familiar with basic horror movie tropes, which most people are, that's really enough to appreciate the basic idea and humor. If you don't like watching hapless kids get killed, then it's probably not your thing. It's more of a comedy than a horror movie, but it has it both ways pretty effectively.

Oooh, also, Drew Goddard said that Much Ado About Nothing was DONE (like very recently, Amy didn't even know), and he'd seen it, and it was great, so maybe we'll hear news about a release date soon.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh, this is perfect! I was just wondering if anything good was opening next Friday....

Well, you could see The Cabin in the Woods OR you could see The Three Stooges. It's your call.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

There is also the new (!) Whit Stillman, Damsels in Distress. Trailer: [link]

Stillman's an acquired taste, but I really liked his comedy-of-manners trilogy, "Last Days of Disco" in particular. I still break out the soundtrack when I'm feeling blah. "Love Train" playing over the closing credit = perfection. This new one looks like it's high on whimsy, so I'll need to be in a right mood for it, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

There is also the new (!) Whit Stillman, Damsels in Distress. Trailer:

Nice! It's got tap dancing and Adam Brody and Greta Gerwig!

Should be a perfect extra whimsical double feature with Moonrise Kingdom.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

I've been hesitating to ask this, because I know how much one of the stars is disliked by many here, but has anyone else seen Mirror, Mirror? Anyone at all? I just... I kind of liked it. Lily Collins was incredibly appealing and adorable, and the writing was never great but was at least solidly adequate, and OH GOD the sets and costumes. It was such a glorious, lush, deliciously over the top design-porn fest, and it's killing me that I can't find one other person to gasp and squee over it with. I'm at the point where, if I had any money, I'd happily bribe any Buffista with a love of the visually ornate and two hours to spare to see it just so we could talk about it afterwards.

Anyone? Anyone at all? I will *totally* go hunt down the mostly-mediocre-but-with-one-glorious-element movie of anyone else's choice to squee about it with them in return.

Because books.

Sara saw it, and said she loved it, but she went with friends, JZ.
