Hi :)
As a fan of the ERB novels, I was disappointed with much of
John Carter.
They made changes to the character of Carter that diminished him and made him somewhat whiny and selfish, and they totally rewrote the civilisation of Barsoom. The only change I did appreciate was making Dejah Thoris a strong, intelligent woman who was more than just a "pretty face". As an adaption of "Princess of Mars" I give it 2/10.
Having said that, if it had simply been marketed as a movie based on characters created by ERB and certain elements from the novels, then I would have viewed it much differently. I would've still objected to them making Carter whiny and selfish but could've happily overlooked the rest. All in all, as an action-adventure-fantasy movie, I thought it was well above average, and would give it 8/10. Anyone who enjoyed Avatar or LoTR would also enjoy this I think.
::tongue-in-cheek:: Let's face it, it stole all the good stuff from
Avatar.
Man, look at this (non spoilery) still from The Avengers. For some reason, I always see a hint of regret in Captain America's heroism. I don't think any hero feels the impact of collateral damage more than he does, as well as just regretting the existence of evil in the world, and the resulting need to fight it. It's not an adrenaline rush, or a compensation, like Iron Man, or a job/responsibility like for Black Widow, but trying to fix the world.
And three years ago if you'd ask me if I'd ever be having thinky thinks about Captain America, I'd have snickered.
Aw, I feel like Sad Panda needs to give him a hug.

Right?
Aw, I feel like Sad Panda needs to give him a hug.
He needs a hug from Batman. Batman feels his pain.
(The hero-on-hero action is just bonus fanservice.)
Fuck Sad Panda. It's either me or Tony.
Oh my god. Is it now less than a month until it opens? Is it is it is it?
YES!
Unless you want to fly to the UK. Which...I'd love to otherwise justify.
I want to buy advance tickets, stat.
Unless you want to fly to the UK.
And then you'd have to watch "Marvel Avengers Assemble". Bleagh.
Come to Germany! It opens 26th April here too. That's 3 weeks tomorrow.
I need to round up all the local folks who said they wanted to go to opening night and get a firm promise from them, and then buy some damn tickets.
I might have to go to the midnight show. Except I am usually so wiped out by Thursday night that I really think I wouldn't be able to stay awake. Hmmm.
