I just got back from John Carter and quite liked it. It didn't have benefit of a Queen soundtrack, but otherwise was pretty similar to Flash Gordon in being rollicking Pulp-y fun.
I think they went way overboard on the jumping SFX, but liked the look of most everything else and have no complaints about the performances. In fact Lynn Collins as Deja Thoris (now with added agency!) had a very Claudia Black-ish vibe to me.
It's intermission. We're having fun. The live music really adds a lot to the film. It does make me a little sad that the theatre is only half full.
My Hunger Games name is Yarrow Abernuckle.
You were killed by a time paradox.
OMG that is so awesome!
I finally got around to seeing Winter's Bone, and basically wept through the entire last 1/3 of the movie, even though the movie never consciously set out to do any tear-jerking. I don't even know what to say. Jennifer Lawrence -- yowza.
We are at the movies to see The Artist.
I have a piece about
The Artist
and
Hugo
up at a British film blog, to which I'll be contributing occasionally:

We're at our local performing arts theatre, which used to be an old movie theater seeing The General with Buster Keaton
Oh, that is one of my most favorite movies! So fun and inventive and adorbs.
I wish I had the stamina for this. I actually haven't seen one of those. Well, okay, two.
Ooh, that sounds like fun times.
Damn, I would so go to that if it was anywhere near me. Bummer.
