A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I finally saw Hugo today at our local second run theater. What an amazing film! I think it may end up being one of my first blu-ray purchases when we finally get our player hooked up.

Was that in 3D? Because Hugo is hands down the best use of 3D I've ever seen. Well beyond Avatar or any of the animated movies I've seen in 3D.

I get the feeling that Scorsese has been dying to make a 3D movie since he saw the ones he saw when he was a kid.

I'm catching up on the superhero movies before The Avengers comes out, so I'm watching Thor right now, and I have to say: did they do something to his eyes in post? Because, DUDE. So blue.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

did they do something to his eyes in post? Because, DUDE. So blue.

Both his and Chris Evan's eyes in Captain America (though I think Chris' were contacts) go up to 11 on the blue scale. None more blue.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I doubt they made Chris wear contacts to make his eyes bluer than they already are, though I suppose they may have brightened his irises up in post. [link]

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I assumed it's an artifact of the "everything is orange and blue" color correction that so many movies do.

I didn't think Captain America did that though - I remember it as using a full but slightly muted palette, to give things that kind of old-timey feel.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Avengers in the style of Friends: [link]

Lots of outside footage, so it pings my wrongdar, but cute.

What would you guys say stands in the way of making a decent Superman movie?

Is there an existing Superman story that could be converted to a movie that could grab the public's eyeballs as much as, say, Thor? Not asking for an Iron Man or a Batman here.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

What would you guys say stands in the way of making a decent Superman movie?

He's too wholesome?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Ha, my current love is Superman: Up, Up, and Away!, which is about Superman without his powers, so I'm not sure the public would care. Although, given that he does regain his powers, they could spin it as a sort of origin story/reboot. Also, a lot of the strength of the book is in the narration, and superhero movies don't generally have narration.
