Black Widow is Natasha Romanova, a Soviet spy. No superpowers besides being badass (um, Wikipedia says now she has nanites or some shit?). I know her mostly through her associations with Daredevil.

So I spent 20 minutes trying to watch the Avengers trailer on my smartphone. That's a good trailer--it shows the different characters, and what the stakes are, and who the bad guy is, and the bit at the end is wicked interesting. Is that supposed to be Loki's 8-legged steed? My Norse mythology is a bit weak.

I read the Wikipedia entry. Boy does he have a complicated biography. I guess it is the nature of long lived comic book franchises. Every so often they want to make a change in the character and atmosphere and style of the franchise, and I guess that requires a series of unfortunate events, and serious character trauma.
