I think a lot of the problem comes from the fact that movies are so expensive to make ... at least the way so many are made. Aside from the special effects and CGI, how many movies are going to be able to afford two major stars? Remember The Women? how many major actresses were in that? Could it ever be made today? And would any studio pay that many stars' salaries to get them? Not to mention what seems a trend to gear so many movies to young men, who wouldn't sit still for it.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
There was a remake of The Women. I never saw it, but I heard it was dreadful.
Then there are the TV series remakes, airing as The Real Housewives of....
They won't wait 50 years.
I was going to say, based on the Spider-man franchise we might be seeing a Potter reboot by about 2020. Hopefully, Maggie Smith will be able to reprise her role!
I just watched the remake of The Women the other day. I thought it was pretty cute, actually, and I was expecting dreadful.
I liked it. But I've only seen snippets of the original.
I'm with askye -- I'm looking forward to the day someone besides George takes a crack at the Star Wars movies.

Oh, you're going to regret that when Michael Bay is finally ready to move on from the Transformers franchise.
Oh, bt, that's evil.
Not as much as if Uwe Boll decided too.
But Boll would have to make movies based on the Star Wars video games rather than the movies, so I wouldn't be familiar enough with the source material to feel outrage.
