I'd rather stay home and watch television. It's often funnier than killing stuff.

Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Because books.

Let me say why, even after reading the whitefont, I am excited about Watchmen - I've never read it and have no expectations. This is why I tend to not read graphic novels of stuff they are making movies out of - I am a purist when it comes to book-to-screen translations and lose my enjoyment if I have read the material. Particularly with comic book and fantasy movies. I love them. LOVE them.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Has this been posted here yet (haven't looked at everything, so I'm not sure if any of the stills are spoilery - they look like just shots fromt he trailer to me): [link]

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I know we have some fans here, so I'll note this find: a blog devoted to reviewing classic caper films.

Watchmen - Hitler finds out about new Watchmen [snip]. (Yet another Downfall remix.)

Spoilery about one of the major changes from the graphic novel.

I don't know why I keep finding these Downfall remixes so funny....

eta: Also, we learn that Stalin considered Watchmen unfilmable....

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

As funny as the Wall*E one is, I can't stop laughing at this one: [link]

Frankenbuddha, if you've been wondering, "Hmmm, I wonder what it would look like if a Japanese director loved both the Bugaloos and Dario Argento and made a horror movie?" Wonder no more.

The scene in which we watch Melody getting eaten, and then digested, by a grand piano is probably the most memorable

OK, this bit alone makes it sound like a must see. I mean, Johnny Depp getting eaten and vomited by a bed I can see anytime I want. But a grand piano?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Here's the trailer.

...and here's the piano death scene.

Wow, that did not disappoint for sheer gruesome wackiness.
