I also need to cave on the Star Wars Complete Package Blu-Ray thingy. Even though I don't like the prequels very much (I was so disappointed with the first two I still haven't seen the third one, though most say it's the least awful), and dread the Special Edition changes, I need to own the movies in the prettiest format.
Gris, you're aware the Blu-Ray versions have even more changes, right?
Man, I just tracked down some versions of Han shooting first, and it was actually exciting. God, man. Just because it's your story doesn't mean it's your story, Lucas.

This is why I'm so glad DH snapped up the DVDs when he did - we have the Special Editions with the original theatrical cuts as bonus features.

Yes. That's why it's a "cave" instead of a "bought them the second they were released with a huge joyous whoop." If they ever actually release a prettied-up theatrical version, I'll buy it too. But I don't think it's happening soon, and I want to see the movies in high quality, even if I have to grit my teeth through many bits.
I always thought it a shame that there were never any sequels to or alterations of the Star Wars trilogy.

I finally saw Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy last night. It started off kind of slow, to me, but after 15 minutes or so I was totally sucked in. It reminded me of a David Lynch movie in that I found myself actively scanning for possible meaning in any given scene or interaction, because you never knew when a detail might be important. Gary Oldman was amazing. Tom Hardy was as beautiful as I've ever seen him. And I couldn't take my eyes off Benedict Cumberbatch in most of his scenes. He looked downright physically intimidating in one scene, and that's not something I've really associated with his other characters.
