Yates made clear that his movie adaptation would not follow on from the current TV series, but would take a completely fresh approach to the material.

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

That's pretty much what the '60s films did (and the Peter Cushing Doctor is not counted amongst all the other Doctors). I'm sure I wouldn't go see a DW film in the theater unless it got rave reviews, although I probably would see it on tv (as its rightful medium).
t blinks real hard
What is the point of making it a Doctor Who thing if you're not going to be in continuity. It's not like it's the only franchise with a time-traveler. This is going to be like Constantine, isn't it?

That breakdown is kinda fun. But every time I see just a picture of Rue, I tear up. This is going to be a hard movie to get through.
To me, almost everything looks just as I imagined it. I think it's going to be stunning.
Jean, spoilerfont.
The tie-in makes me go "bzuh?",
The tie-in seems like such a Capitol thing to do. Commemorative eyeliner in honor of this year's tributes!
OMG. You are so right.
Yeah, I was thinking -- she's always getting her nails done when she's in the Capitol, so it's not totally crazy.... just, maybe those aren't the characters to want to emulate?
