Illyria: We cling to what is gone. Is there anything in this life but grief? Wesley: There's love. There's hope...for some. There's hope that you'll find something worthy...that your life will lead you to some joy...that after everything...you can still be surprised. Illyria: Is that enough? Is that enough to live on?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

So I finally saw Captain America. Ended up seeing it in 3D because that was what was available.

I really really enjoyed Captain America. And, surprisingly, I enjoyed it in 3D.

Ditto and ditto.

But can anyone explain to me why Hydra had an octopus as its symbol? An octopus is like the opposite of a hydra!

Compassionately intolerant

I saw HP7.2 today and liked it much better than I expected to.

As the credits rolled, I said to my companion, "Jeez. It's Saving Private Ryan for tweens."

InTENSE.

Thrive to spite them

It really felt like I was watching a comic book come to life rather than a movie adaptation of a comic book.

That's actually from the comics, where part of their rah-rah chant is "Cut off a limb, and two more shall take its place!"

No, it doesn't really make much sense why they picked a hydra as their symbol instead of, say, a starfish.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

According to Wikipedia, the chant is "Cut off a head", hence the reference. (The Lernaean hydra, faced by Heracles, grew two new heads if one was severed.)

Incidentally, hydra is also the name of a genus of tentacled freshwater animals, which are also able to regenerate body parts, and like sponges, if pushed through a sieve, the individual cells will reform into a hydra. (Disambiguation: I don't mean that a sieved sponge would then also form a hydra.)

Also on the Captain America tip, is it weird how excited I was to see Amanda Righetti at the end there? I'm not sure why I like her so much, but I do!

Nope, that's a reference to the hydra of mythology. If you'll check the blue sidebar with the quote from its initial 1965 appearance, the actual chant used by the terrorist organization refers to limb rather than head. Not accurate to the source, but I suppose green-masked former Nazis aren't too picky about such things.

move out and draw fire

Plus, I'm not sure the Red Skull would go for a logo that featured multiple red skulls.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Plus, I'm not sure the Red Skull would go for a logo that featured multiple red skulls.

Personally, I think that logo would be cool. But then, I am not Red Skull.

ION, I remember Ed Wood

Ask any film buff to name the worst directors of all-time, and you can be sure Ed Wood’s name will come up. He’s become a legend for films like Plan 9 From Outer Space -a movie so bad it needs to be seen just to be believed. This piece was written by someone who knew him -in fact, the reluctant star of Plan 9, Gregory Walcott.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.
