Went to Captain America today with tommyrot and enjoyed it immensely. Hard to say if I like it better than Thor, but at least equally as much. Definitely thought the romantic storyline was much better written and thought that Peggy Carter absolutely rocked. The audience definitely seemed into the movie, lots of laughter and whooting when the good guys won. Also, lots of sniffles when
Steve crashed the plane into the snow. Poor Peggy.
Sniff.
It was huge fun to see the
Howling Commandos
show up, I was not expecting it at all. I don't know if Captain America actually interacted with them in the original comic, but it made me whoot to see
Dugan with his bowler hat and fancy mustache.
The whole audience stayed for the after credits trailer and it really made me very happy to see it. I can not wait for next year!
Finally saw HP7.2. That was great fun!
... I also got my first ever unsolicited senior discount. WTF.
I saw HP7b yesterday as well. Can anybody who is well versed in the books answer a question? When they were at
Gringotts, and the goblin asked to see Beatrix's wand, why didn't they just show him her wand? They had it anyway, didn't they? Why did they choose to douse him with happy smoke instead
?
Fiona,
the details are different vs. book and movie, because see this excerpt explaining the situation in the book:
"Hermione presents the wand in the books, but there’s still a problem with that, because everyone knows that Bellatrix’s wand has been taken." so that is one of the things that got them caught in the book, the presentation of Bellatrix's wand.
Also, in the book more time passes between the escape from Malfoy Manor and the visit to Gringotts: weeks go by, during which
word would spread that Bellatrix had lost her wand. Certainly she would have informed Gringotts that the wand had been taken, if wands are commonly used as a means of identification.
I have to say, my favorite bit of the movie might have been
Hermione saying "I have an idea, but it's MAD!" and then the whole crazy escape on the dragon. The CGI was splendid, and it was just fabulous. So much fun.
I also saw Captain America last night, though not with Buffistas! I really enjoyed it. Thought Chris Evans did a fab job, and Stanley Tucci and Tommy Lee Jones were delightful. Really liked Peggy - how wonderful to have a romantic interest who
is never a damsel in distress and saves his ass a couple of times
. Now I need to go back and see Thor.
I am smonster. I also dug Hugo Weaving.
I also dug Hugo Weaving.
Haven't seen the movie yet, but it's hard to go wrong with Weaving!
I definitely want to see Captain America but I avoid going to anything on opening weekend. So, we're finally going to see X-Men: First Class at the second run theater.
We saw
Bridesmaids
last night and I loved it! Though I had to cover my eyes and ears for the extended vomiting scene. But otherwise, it was awesome! I loved Annie and Lillian's friendship, just the way they could be so goofy and funny with each other, and of course Melissa McCarthy was amazing. And Wilson Phillips! And the dance moves! So much fun.
